- Genjutsu: How to get out before they Melt your Brain:
The first common method of escaping mind thumbing is to inflict physical pain upon yourself in order to overload your senses and disrupt your opponent’s hold. The amount of pain needed to break free of a genjutsu is dependent on the rank of the Genjutsu used upon you, the list is as follows.
Below C-rank: No grievous injury required, a light cut or bruise inflicted on yourself is enough to override these genjutsu
C-rank: Tissue damage required, a deep knife wound to an appendage, a dislocated joint, a torn ligament, anything in this range will break free of a genjutsu.
B-rank: Deep cut to the abdomen, broken bones, permanent damage to susceptible areas will snap you out of this rank.
A-rank: Relieve yourself of a limb and you’ll snap free.
S-rank: If you kill yourself, you will no longer be under the effects of this genjutsu
- Genjutsu: How to use Kai to prevent brain meltage:
After inflicting pain upon yourself, for the vast majority of the ninja populace there is only one way to negate being afflicted by an illusion: the ninjutsu Kai. The potency of a genjutsu’s hold over its victim is dependent on how the genjutsu was applied. As such, the effects of Kai will be dependent on which sense was affected.
Auditory Genjutsu: Auditory genjutsu are one of the most versatile and effective (guaranteed) forms of applying genjutsu. Consequently, it is also the weakest. The genjutsu practitioner’s hold over his victim can be broken by a Kai of equivalent rank. An A rank auditory genjutsu can be broken by an A-rank Kai, regardless of specialization. The exception to this is if the auditory genjutsu was applied directly next to the ear drum, examples being whispering in someone’s ear or smacking the side of their heads with a tambourine. At this point, Kai requires a rank above in terms of chakra expenditure in order to dispel the illusion. An A-rank genjutsu requiring an S-rank Kai.
Genjutsu specialists: Can dispel an A-rank gen with a B-rank Kai, can dispel the close range variant A-rank gen with an A-rank Kai.
Tactile Genjutsu: While not as common as auditory genjutsu, Tactile genjutsu can be just as versatile and effective. Genjutsu of this variety affect its victim via tremors or other stimuli affecting the sense of touch. As such, these tend to be less potent and hold less control over the victim than a more severe sensory input would command. As such, an equal rank Kai is required to dispel Tactile Genjutsu. Exceptions are genjutsu in which the user physically makes contact with the victim’s skin, in which case the Kai will require a rank above the genjutsu in order to dispel it.
Genjutsu specialists: Can dispel an A-rank gen with a B-rank Kai, can dispel the close range variant A-rank gen with an A-rank Kai.
Scent-based Genjutsu: Another uncommon method of applying an illusion, a genjutsu artist may inflict a genjutsu upon a victim by attacking their sense of smell. By lacing their chakra into an object giving off a strong odor, the practitioner can perforate their chakra through said smell. Things like perfume or rotten food are most common for this. Unlike the other forms of sensory afflictions listed, Scent-Based Genjutsu’s effects are not static. At first application, the genjutsu can be negated by using a kai one rank under the genjutsu applied. Each subsequent post after the initial application, the cost goes up by one. For a chart to explain this, look below. Given the mechanics of the scent based genjutsu, they tend to be more subtle in nature as to avoid detection, lest they be easy to override and consequently not cost effective.
B-rank Scent Genjutsu:
1st post: C-rank
2nd post: B-rank
3rd post: A-rank
4th post: S-rank
5th post: cannot be negated
Genjutsu specialists: Subtract the rank necessary to cancel by one. A B-rank scent genjutsu can be cancelled with a D-rank Kai and so on.
Visual Genjutsu: Most likely the most common form of Genjutsu due to how brutally effective it is, this type of illusion attacks the victim’s sense of sight. Any type of visual cue the victim receives can place them under the influence of an illusion. This can be anything from a twitch of a finger to the practitioner doing arm circles or simply making eye contact with the victim. Given the multitude of different ways to influence someone with this type of genjutsu, it’s hold over the victim is split up in to two categories: Eye contact and Body gestures.
Body Gestures: The magnitude of the movement determines the strength of the hold the genjutsu has on the victim. The list goes as follows:
~Small gestures; a flick of the wrist, a wag of the finger, and minute muscle spasm- 1 rank below genjutsu to cancel
~Large Body Movements- Primary motor functions, if the victim watches an ornate arm movement or stares directly at the hand sign- Equivalent rank Kai
Eye contact: Direct contact between the victim’s and the practitioner’s eyes. The strength of the hold is determined by how long eye contact is held
~Fleeting contact, a passing glance- Equivalent rank Kai
~1-4 seconds held- One rank higher Kai required
~5 seconds held- Two ranks higher Kai required.[/list]
Genjutsu specialists: Subtract One rank from ever equation
Taste-based Genjutsu: The rarest form of afflicting genjutsu, primarily due to its overall impracticality, but simultaneously the most powerful form of genjutsu. If this practitioner manages to get their victim to consume something that they’ve laced with their genjutsu, the victim needs a Kai of two ranks higher in order to dispel the genjutsu, regardless of specialization. Every hour that passes, this requirement is reduced by one rank.

Yes, we have genjutsu rules. Each genjutsu has a level when used. This level varies between one and five. The level denotes how hard they are to break. Here is a chart:
Level 1 – C Rank Kai to Break, someone else releasing you with D Rank Kai
Level 2 – B Rank Kai to Break, someone else releasing you with C Rank Kai
Level 3 – A Rank Kai to Break, someone else releasing you with B Rank Kai
Level 4 – Someone else releasing you with A Rank Kai
Level 5 – Nothing special
All genjutsu can be broken by the person who placed it and Sharingan with at least 3 tomoe. Genjutsu levels one through four can be broken outside of battle by an NPC medic (a topic must be made, but it may be a single post, and must make sense. You cannot have an NPC medic break you out of genjutsu when you are in a jail owned by the person who placed the genjutsu, for example.) Genjutsus of level five must be broken by an A rank or better PC with a Medical Specialty.
Genjutsu start with a level based on their rank. D and C rank genjutsu are level 1. B and A rank genjutsu are level 2. S rank genjutsu are level 3. A genjutsu may gain a bonus level by having a major downside (these downsides are on the scale of RP Life Changers.) This is to make it possible, but impractical, for a reason, to make one of these.
Pain can also get you out of a genjutsu. So, here we go.
Level 1 – Deep and/or long Scratch
Level 2 – Decent Cut
Level 3 – Cut that could be fatal if no care were given within two days
Level 4 – Cut that would be fatal if no care were given in one day
Level 5 – Cut that would be fatal if no care were given in 12 hours
So, that is how to deal with genjutsu. GOOD LUCK!
