Mayu Ave Hyouton - The Mizukage

It all started with one spur of the moment decision. The one tiny thing that clicked in her mind that willed her to say yes. And she didn’t regret it. She didn’t regret it for a moment. Haruka Kiyomizu was a risk taker, and when she was offered the mission that seemed like suicide, she had almost declined it. But then she had paused for a single second, thinking of what an adventure it could be and said yes. The Mizukage had been overjoyed that someone had accepted the mission and sent her away as soon as possible. The mission called for one shinobi from each major village. Haruka met her four best friends that day, and one of them was to be the love of her life.

The Konoha ninja was a young girl like Haruka, with fire and determination in her eyes, her name was Yuuki. Suna’s shinobi was named Ryou, and he was older than the girls by a few years, though he had the personality of a 12 year old. Iwa sent its own jinchuuriki, Airi, who was a girl in her late twenties with a heart of gold. And, of course, there was the stubborn ninja from Kumogakure that didn’t like to take orders, his name had been Kazuki.

The group was sent to an island near the coast of the Whirlpool Country. Their mission was to make sure that the weapon that concealed the nine tails was safely transferred from a secure cave inside of a mountain to a specially build chamber under the village of Konohagakure to ensure its safety while the seal was weak. Without being stolen. That was a harder task than it seemed, as they had received many threats already.

The group received the weapon and quickly began the long journey to Konoha. There was slight tension in the team and it was quickly extinguished when they were attacked for the first time, by a group of rouges that thought that they could steal the weapon and sell it. The team beat them easily and they made it to the shore in time to sail back to the mainland. They remained undisturbed for their entire voyage on the rough seas.
When the team reached the port on the other side, they found an ambush. And even though they had expected it, they hadn’t expected the entire Jounin population of the sound village to show. It was almost hopeless. Almost. The team fought like they never had before, and Airi wiped out a lot of them with her demon cloak activated.

The rest of the journey was similar to this, with lots of battles, but the team seemed invincible. They worked hard to protect the weapon, because they knew just how terrible it would be if it was stolen. All hell would break loose. So they worked together and didn’t let it out of their sight. Haruka and Kazuki quickly developed a love/hate relationship, while Airi and Yuuki and Haruka became best friends. Ryou and Kazuki had this rivalry thing going, but it seemed more play then serious.

After two weeks of traveling, the team was finally at Konoha and the weapon was secured underground. Yuuki was happy to be home and she took the team out to dinner every night that they remained in Konoha. After a week, the group split up and went their separate ways, though still writing every now and then. They had no idea if they would ever see each other again.

Three years passed and Haruka had made it to Jounin rank. She entered the ANBU and was immediately transferred to Kumogakure for a three-year-posting. She didn’t mind, as Haruka had little family in Kiri anyways. The girl dreaded the long trip across the continent, and when she reached her destination, she was relieved to find that an apartment had been reserved for her. She moved in quickly and unpacked the stuff that she did own, which wasn’t a lot. Luckily for her, the apartment was already furnished.

On her first day in Kumo, she ran right into Kazuki, who at first didn’t recognize her and had apologized a couple times before looking into her eyes and then realizing who she was. The two of them went to lunch and did that for the next month or so before he asked her out. She said yes, of course, and that begins the story of how Mayu Hyouton came to be. The couple were inseparable and they soon moved into Haruka’s apartment.

It took him two years, but Kazuki finally asked Haruka to marry him. So began the rest of their lives. It wasn’t long after their wedding that Mayu was born. As soon as they saw her, Mayu’s parents knew she would be trouble, but she would succeed greatly in life as well.

After a year of marriage, Haruka was asked to move back to Kirigakure. She accepted, of course, and Kazuki went with her. They moved into her old house, as it was held for her, and they raised Mayu in the Mist village.


Mayu Hyouton was born in Kumogakure on February 2nd, however she only spent a year of her life there. That year had been nice and quiet and normal, as Kazuki and Haruka both took time off from their ninja duties so that they could raise their daughter in peace. They were a tightly knit family and they never hurt one another. Mayu was born with blue eyes that swiftly changed to a bright amber colour after a month. As the year went on, Mayu grew quickly, crawling at 6 months and walking on her own about 7 months later. When she was crawling, she would go fast and evade her parents easily, which was a handful. She could never sleep as a child, a bad habit that she would carry with her for the rest of her life.

There was one incident that May went through when she was about 9 months old that caused her to be very afraid of thunderstorms, so whenever she hears thunder she freezes and then hugs the nearest person until it goes away. It happen when her father took her outside to watch the lightning from the storm while her mother was out. There was a huge rumble of thunder that shook the earth right after lightning struck the house beside them. It scared her so bad that she was afraid ever since. Haruka wasn’t pleased when she came home to a crying baby and her apologizing husband. It took her a week before she forgave him.


When Mayu turned two years old she began walking and speaking a little bit. She was a quick learner and her parents quickly found out that she was quite intelligent, even at her age. She would often trick Haruka by pretending to sleep, but playing in her crib instead during naptime. May never really cried unless she was scared, which her mother was grateful for. She was one of those angelic babies that all the parents want. Now, don’t confuse Mayu for a Mary Sue, because she was a good baby. No, she was trouble as a teenager, but we’ll get to that later.

At one point in time, Mayu decided that climbing to the top of the fridge would be fun. Her mother was out of the room for a moment and carelessly forgot a chair beside the counter. The toddler quickly took action and climbed the chair, then climbed onto the counter and finally reaching the top of the fridge. When her mother came back in she nearly had a heart attack and hastily got her daughter before her husband came into the kitchen about two seconds after she got Mayu down.

Halfway through her second year, she began to talk with actual words. Her first word was ‘mama’ and Haruka was overjoyed and teased Kazuki about it often. Her next words were ‘daddy’, ‘rain’, ‘mist’ and ‘moon’. She picked up most one syllable words and was talking with no problem by the end of her second year.


Mayu’s third year was pretty eventful, with the only thing remotely normal was Kazuki going back to work. Her mother was against it was first, as she missed going out on missions too and she didn’t want to leave Mayu in a day care, but then she let him go anyways. Kazuki went on a three-day mission to Konoha and when he came back he told Haruka that he had ran into Yuuki. The girl had settled down and had a fiancé and was happy, and she promised to invite them to her wedding, along with everyone else from their old team.

The wedding was held in July of that year and Haruka was overjoyed to leave the house again. The party was amazing and seeing all of their friends again was amazing. The bride and Airi both couldn’t stop playing and holding Mayu and both seemed very excited to have their own kids. After the long trip home, Kazuki was sent on one mission after another. He took time off work for a week and then resumed, though with a less busy schedule.


When Mayu turned four, her mother began teaching her stuff about the ninja arts, prepping her for the academy. She learned quickly, though her mother only let her use paper shuriken for practice. She mostly learnt all the book knowledge stuff and how to mold chakra. Kazuki taught his daughter how to move her feet so that they produced no sound. With her prior knowledge, plus her incredible mind, Haruka had no doubt that her daughter would graduate early from the academy. Unless she sucked at ninjutsu...

Mayu practiced with her paper shuriken every day and she was very mature for her age. She would often steal her father’s extra kunai and sneak out at night into the forest to practice her aim on trees. May knew her parents would kill her, but she didn’t really care at that point. She just mainly focused on training so that she could become strong like her parents and someday be the Mizukage.


The pinkette got accepted into the academy early and sped through her studies. She had trouble making clones at first, but got it eventually. She also had to adjust to using real shuriken and not paper, but she was able to use them effectively later on. Mayu was made fun of by her peers for many reasons; she was a know-it-all, she had bright pink hair that would make hiding hard, and she was cute so the guys just teased her cause they liked her, and the girls picked on her cause they were jealous. Mayu knew this and didn’t really respond at all to the bullies. She had her best friend, who was all she ever needed.

Mayu’s best friend was a girl named Aimi, who was a year older than her with dark, almost black looking, brown hair and blue-grey eyes. She was from the Hozuki clan and often accidentally turned into water, so she was teased as well. They bonded quickly and deeply, so soon enough they felt like sisters. By the end of the year, Mayu was half way ready to graduate.


Mayu worked hard and at the halfway point of the year, she took her Genin exams with the older group and passed. Aimi passed at the same time and the teacher even put them in the same team, along with a boy named Kyo. They worked together well and tackled missions easily with Kyo’s strong genjutsu, Aimi’s excellent water techniques and Mayu’s super intelligence. They were a hard team to beat and their sensei was one of the best, which made them even more dynamic. This was what sent them down the path of entering the Chunnin Exams, even though they had graduated not a few months before. The group believed they could do it, and they tried as hard as they could.

The group did well in the written portion of the exams, as Mayu didn’t even need to cheat and her teammates sat beside her and copied her paper. The second part of the exam was more challenging, especially because Mayu had argued that a place called “The Forest of Death” had to be more dangerous than the officials let on. They entered despite Mayu’s complaints and quickly found another team with the scroll that they needed. The team was from Konoha and they fought well, but in the end, they got caught in Kyo’s genjutsu and they were able to steal the scroll and get away, heading to the center of the forest. After that, the team fought their individual matches and won against all of their opponents and all three became Chunnin.


During one of the team’s missions, there was an assassin that tried to kill the man that they were escorting and the assassin killed Aimi while trying to get to the target. Mayu went into a state of shock and froze up at the sight of her best friend’s death, and Kyo had to deal with the assassin on his own. He managed to trap the assassin in a long-term genjutsu, and get him back to the Mist village to be sent to jail.

That year was a dark time for Mayu and she didn’t talk for the rest of the year and a long time after that. Her parents were very concerned about her, but couldn’t do anything about it, since she wouldn’t talk about it at all. She almost quit being a ninja, by then Kyo came by one day and convinced her to stay a ninja. May still refused to speak, though.


It had been a long time, and when Mayu finally spoke again her parents only stared at first. The girl then explained that she had been stupid to be so upset for so long and she was sorry she worried them. May went back to regular training with Kyo and their new teammate, who was an Uchiha named Souta. They worked well together, but they weren’t as dynamic as the team before, and Mayu was distant.

In her fourteenth year of life, Mayu spent a lot of her time alone, training to become a Jounin. She planned to take the exam at age 16, so she figured that if she trained hard enough and figured out what the exam tested, then she would make Jounin on the first try, as she had done with Chunnin.

Mayu sometimes invited her teammates to train with her, but not very often. She liked her seclusion, and often kept to it. It troubled Haruka and Kazuki, but she didn’t think about their worries a lot.


This year was a lot like the one before, which was basically training all around the clock. When she wasn’t training, the girl went on missions with her teammates to make sure that she was getting some more social contact with people. Her missions were all mostly successful, but she was in a trance like state for most of the parts of the missions, replaying Aimi’s death in her mind over and over. Mayu blamed herself for her best friend’s death, even though it wasn’t her fault. She slacked in her training a lot after finishing a couple missions, especially the escort missions.

Soon after that, she set her mind straight again and went back to training. She was almost ready for her exam by the end of the year. May asked her teammates to join her, but they needed more time, so she went and signed up by herself.


Her sixteenth year consisted of extra training and then finally taking her Jounin exam. She did very well with all of the parts, though her teamwork was, as it always was, distant. She did the information recovery on her own and the written portion was a piece of cake, as usual. The girl passed her Jounin exam with flying colours and her parents were so proud that their daughter reached such a high rank at such a young age.

The girl declined the offer to teach students at the Academy and to lead a team. She almost joined ANBU, but then set her sights on Mizukage. The current one was at an old age and was soon ready to retire, so Mayu went up to the Kage and asked that she be trained and considered to be the Mizukage’s replacement. She was accepted for the training and was on her way to becoming a Kage.


Mayu’s whole year of being seventeen was basically working hard at the Kage office and coming home late at night. Her parents didn’t mind much, since they were just overwhelmed by the fact that their daughter was probably going to be the next Mizukage. She worked hard at the Kage’s side and quickly gained her trust and respect. It wasn’t long before she was talking about retiring and leaving Mayu in her place.

Mayu became the Mizukage halfway through the year, and took the village in a better direction with her great intelligence and knowing of great battle strategy. The village missed their third Mizukage; the fourth Mizukage would surely lead them into an era of peace or victory.


The village was peaceful under Mayu’s lead and she was loved by most of her people. She was the youngest in the history of Kirigakure to become the Mizukage and she was also the smartest. Mayu moved out of her parent’s house when she turned eighteen, and basically lived in the Kage building’s spare bedroom for the time being and still lives there at the present. She is very serious about her work and doesn’t allow herself a lot of spare time.
